| I cannot send mail, what
should I do?
If you cannot send email, verify that you have the correct settings in
place in your email program. The outgoing (SMTP) server to use when you
are connected to the Internet via RadixNet is:
mail1.radix.net.
If you have verified you have the correct settings and are still unable
to send mail please contact RadixNet
Support.
I cannot retrieve mail, what should I do?
The first thing you should check is that you have the correct server
listed in your email program. If you have a dial-up account and you are
attempting to download your mail you will need to list as your incoming
mail server:
pop.radix.net
If you have a shell account, your incoming mail server will be:
saltmine.radix.net
I have an Internet connection through another provider, but my email
is through RadixNet. Why am I unable to send email?
In order to send mail via RadixNet's outgoing (SMTP) server you must be
connected to RadixNet through one of our services such as dial-up or DSL.
If you are connected to another service such as Comcast or Earthlink
for example, you will need to send mail using their outgoing mail server.
The industry standard is that you send mail though the provider that
connects you to the Internet. If you do connect to the Internet through a
provider other than RadixNet you will need to contact that provider and
ask them for help in using their outgoing (SMTP) mail server.
I am unable to view any web sites, what should I do?
If you are connected to the Internet through RadixNet, make sure your
DNS settings are correct. They are found in the "TCP/IP" and/or "Dial-Up
Networking" areas of your computer. The DNS servers should be listed as
follows:
207.192.128.35 Preferred DNS
207.192.128.36 Secondary DNS
Should you still not be able to navigate the Internet, contact RadixNet Support.
Problem -- My Modem Does nothing
Modem not turned on (external modem only)
Modem not connected to phone line
If you have voice mail system and there is voice mail waiting your dial tone will have a stutter. This will disrupt your modems attempt to locate a dial tone. Add 3 commas (eg: ,,,) at the beginning of the phone number or clear all messages from your voic
e mail system.
Phone line is dead (use a handset to check)
Phone line plugged into wrong socket of modem
Cable from modem to CPU is loose (or incorrectly wired)
Modem software set to wrong COM port. (COM2 is usually correct, otherwise try all others)
Problem -- When I connect I get strange stuff on the screen.
Make sure your terminal emulation is set at VT100
Hang up and try again.
Make sure your bits and parity are set at 8 bits, no parity, 1 stop bit (8N1)
Problem -- When I type something in, I see it double
(e.g. "stop" becomes "ssttoopp")
Turn the echo off in your communications setting.
Problem -- When I connect things stop unexpectedly and I am sometimes disconnected.
Possibly you have a noisy phone line. Call 611 and have them check your line from the central office.
Buy a radio frequency filter from the AT&T Phone Store (Radio Shack does not have them)>
If you have been connected for
more than 25 minutes without any activity, RadixNet automatically disconnects
you. Why? To free up your telephone line so that you can receive calls
and to free up our phone line so that another person can dial-in. Yes,
you do have unlmited access -- providing you are actually accessing something.
Problem -- I have call waiting and the incoming call signal disconnects me
Dial *70, before
the rest of the number. Note that this will disable call waiting only for
the duration of the phone call. When you hang up, you will have call waiting
again.
Problem -- I get disconnected in the middle of a session
Make sure that no one is picking up the telephone while you are connected
If you have call waiting, be
sure that you put a *70, in front of RadixNet s number. This stops call
waiting for the duration of your call.
You have noise on your telephone line.
Your modem or cable(s) are bad. Perform the following checks, to see if you can force a disconnection
hit the modem lightly
wiggle the cable and wire connections.
If this does not pinpoint the
problem, you can check your modem by borrowing some else's modem and see if it still happens.
Be sure that your modem is set to hardware flow control (CTS)
Problem -- my connection is slow
Make sure your software
is set to the same speed as the modem. If you are using the Web, a modem
speed less than 14.4 will be too slow.
The SLIP/PPP program suddenly quits or the machine freezes.
This is a problem on your
machine. It is very common with Microsoft Windows. If the program quits,
try restarting it. Usually you are still connected to RadixNet. If your
computer is frozen, you have no choice but to turn it off and on to restart
it. Be sure that you reset your modem by turning it off and on too.
If you are running Windows,
and this problem happens frequently, you may need to upgrade your computer
with more memory.
Problem -- sometimes my backspace key does not work
Try ^h (control key and the h key simultaneously)
Problem -- I get stuck somewhere and can't leave
Try the following:
^C, ^X, exit, quit, bye,
logout, lo, hang up through the comm software, turn off modem, unplug phone
wire, turn off computer
Problem -- I don't know my password.
RadixNET will assign the
user a new password.
Problem -- Zmodem doesn't work, or works sometimes.
This is a problem with 33.6
modems. The modem industry is aware of the problem, but does not have a
solution. Use Xmodem (sx and rx commands) if Zmodem does not work. |
