Play Therapy and Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD)

March 23 & 30 6:00-9:30 pm each session
This six hour workshop will give participants an overview of the use of behavior/cognitive play therapy in the treatment of OCD. The signs, symptoms, DSM-IV criteria, prevalence, diagnosis, screening instruments and treatment will be discussed relative to three play therapy case studies. Psychopharmacology relative to OCD will be included.
Objective:
1. Identify the theoretical base and DSM-IV criteria for OCD diagnosis.
2. Describe what is known about the psychobiology of OCD.
3. Analyze the three most used treatment strategies for OCD which are behavior therapy, cognitive therapy and play therapy.
4. Demonstrate through three clinical cases, how OCD may be treated with play therapy.
