The Stimpsons on Vacation

Everyone knows the Simpsons, who live in Springfield, in the state whose capital is "Capital City"; few know the Stimpsons, who hail from another Springfield inside the USA. Last year, they decided to visit all the "legitimate" Springfields in the Union, as defined as a city or town in the 1990 Census. That brought the number of Springfields down from 50-some-odd to just 15, and excluded unincorporated places like Springfield, VA. Also, the city or town had to be named just plain "Springfield," not North Springfield, Springfield Junction or any such combination.

Harry and Maude Stimpson began their trek by driving out of their hometown in their old Buick. They planned their trip so as not to set foot (or tire) in any state which did not contain a visitable Springfield. This led to a quirky itinerary, and at various points, in order to adhere to their plan, they had to charter boats and aircraft to take them to their destinations.

Below is a copy of the log Maude kept of their trip. In some cases she was careful to record every dogleg encountered on the road, but in others (if a Springfield was within ten miles or so of a metropolis) she relied on the mileage between the closest big cities as printed in her road atlas. For segments by air, she included FAA codes, one of which may be difficult to locate. Your task is to fill in the states visited, in order.
