Agnes Reid Hogg
1822 -1902
Another one of the aged inhabitants of this village has been called to rest.
Mrs. Wilson Hogg (nee Agnes Reid) daughter of William and Eliza
Reid late of this place, was born in Bergin, Genesee county, June
2nd, 1822. She moved to this place with her father's family in
1834 and settled on the farm at West Hill in the Gulf school district.
She was married to Wilson Hogg, January 1st, 1845, and lived on what was
known formerly as the "Wilson Hogg" farm, now the "Morrisen farm.
There they remained until 1890 when they moved to this place.
Their union was blessed with eight children, all of whom are living. William,
of Verona, Pa., Mrs. Buel Rose, of Lyndon, Mrs. Dr. J.W, Kales, and
Miss Jennie A. Hogg, of this place, James A. Hogg, of Angelica,N.Y.,
Wilson Hogg, of Waynesburg, Pa., Nathan R. Hogg, of North-West Territory
and George T. Hogg, of New York City, secretary to the Hon. Frank C. Laughlin,
Justice of the Appelate Division of Supreme Court, 1st department.
Mrs. Hogg is the last one of the Reid family, Nathan having died in 1883.
Mrs. Hogg was possessed of many remarkable and excellent qualities of mind
and heart which endeared her to a large circle of acquaintances. She had the rare
grace of cheerfulness which never failed to manifest itself during her long and useful life.
She was a true christian mother whose interest inher family never relaxed up to the hour
when the fatal stroke came which caused her death.
The funeral services were conducted by her pastor the Rev. Dr. J.B. Lee, and notwithstand
the storm of Wednesday a large assembly of freinds gathered to pay their last respects to
one so much beloved.
Four of the sons and Mrs. Nathan R. Hogg were among those present from out town.
