Notes:
A former Mormon missionary. Left Disney after working
on Sleeping Beauty to pursue personal interests.
Hired back in the 70's to help rebuild the aging Disney
animation crew.
Walked out of Disney suddenly in 1979, taking Gary
Goldman, John Pomeroy, and 14 other promising
animators. He claimed that Disney was skimping
on production values.
Called Disney's stories "saccharine mush," despite his
own propensities.
Set up a competing studio with Richard Irvine and James
Stewart, two former Disney executives. Had
secretly been working on films with the other
animators in Bluth's garage.

Notes:
Was Walt's first major business partner (and friend).
They met at the Kansas City Art Institute.
Formed Iwerks-Disney Studio, which quickly folded.
Summoned to Disney in the late 20's and created Oswald
the Lucky Rabbit with Walt.
Later designed and animated Mickey Mouse.
Possibly the fastest animator who ever lived. Legend
has it that he once made 700 drawings a day!
Left Disney when offered his own studio. Iwerk's studio
closed in a few years, and he and major members of
his staff went to Disney.
Invented the earliest multiplane camera while away from
Disney. Worked on technical advances when he
returned to Disney. He made possible the
sophisticated blending of live-action and animation
in Mary Poppins.

Legal and other such good stuff
These lists are maintained by Tim Pickett (quetzal@yoyo.cc.monash.edu.au)
and contain the names of people in Disney films and anything else they
are known to have done. The cast list contains exclusively voice
actors; the crew list contains all other roles (a list below shows what
roles are currently being considered).
The format for the cast list is:
Actor's Name
Disney Roles:
Name of Film (Year); Character Name {voice assumed}
Films:
Name of Film (Year); Character Name
TV:
Name of Series (Years); Character Name (Episode)
Stage:
Name of Production (Place and Year); Character Name
Music:
Name of Album or Single (Year)
Other:
Everything else
Notes:
Other pieces of information, trivia, etc.
Other comments are enclosed in braces. The format is slightly different
for the crew list; "Music" has not been included as a separate category
(it has been merged with "Other"; there was a very good reason for this
which I don't recollect); this will probably be rectified soon.
There are bound to be many omissions and about as many errors in these
lists. In disclaimer-ese, this means that everything that's wrong is
my fault, but everything that's right is thanks to the people listed
in the acknowledgments.
In short, if you have any information, send it to me at
quetzal@yoyo.cc.monash.edu.au, stating: Actor name, production name and
category (as in the format shown above), the year the production was made,
and what character the actor played. Even the obvious stuff; it probably
isn't obvious to me. Be considerate of the fact that I'm in Australia
and don't know most of the newest shows by name. "Made-for-TV" films
go under "Films" rather than "TV". The "Music" entry, for the most
part, only includes studio albums, not best-ofs or singles (if they are
from an album); this is purely for reasons of space.
What constitutes a "Disney Film"? Well, at the moment I am restricting
it to the "official" 31 titles, listed in the rec.arts.disney FAQ
available elsewhere. This means that DuckTales, the Disney Afternoon,
and so on, are off limits as far as a "Disney Role" is concerned, though
these are perfectly all right under the "Films" and "TV" categories if
the name is already listed. I may change my mind on this point in the
future, so send other info if you think it's appropriate.
And what is a "Disney Role"? I am being fairly lenient here; any person
whose voice appears on the film's sound track is eligible. So that
includes voice actors, narrators, even title song performers. Even if
the character played is not given a name, or even if which character is
played by the voice is unknown. If there are two independent requests
for an actor who is not from one of the "official 31" films to be
included (there still has to be *some* Disney relation) I will include
it.
For the crew list, categories of "What the person did" currently are:
Director; Producer (most types); Storyboard; Screenplay; Character
Design; Live Action Reference;
Score; Lyrics; Songs (only the music, otherwise "Lyrics" will be stated too);
Directing Animator; Character Animator; Effects Animator; Backgrounds;
Computer Animator.
Other categories, such as inbetweener, grip, carpenter, and so on, are
not currently included. If there is a big type of job missing that you
think should be included, tell me about it. If I receive, say, five
requests for a particular job then I will include that job in the list.
Highly wanted information: At the moment, information I am lacking is
particularly from some of the early Disney films, and also Aladdin, as I
won't have the credits handy for some time (the cross-sea lag, you
know . . .). The entries with stars in them are known to feature an
actor with a name that could be, but might not be, the same person.
If you know, then share the information so I can know too. (Presently
there are none in this category but that may change.)
ftp availability: The lists and related programs are available at the
following sites:
yoyo.cc.monash.edu.au [130.194.9.1] : pub/rec.arts.disney/
garfield.catt.ncsu.edu : pub/disney/info/
If anyone wishes to suggest a site in other parts of the world,
notify me so I an include their names here. Those who don't
know how to get stuff with ftp can mail me and I'll send you a
mass-produced primer. The files are compressed in UNIX .tar.Z
format so you'll need decompression programs to get the information
out of the file you ftp.
Try to use these sites outside normal business hours. Yoyo is 10 hours
ahead of GMT, so before noon from the US is the best time to make the
trip. If people use this site during 9-5 hours the directory will
probably be removed. Better still, if you are coming from a region
behind GMT, do your work on Friday (or Saturday), when it is Saturday
(Sunday) here.
Search programs: A C program, radfind, has been written to
automatically search the cast and crew lists with criteria you name. It
ought to compile on any machine that supports ANSI C. This program's
source, along with executables for some popular machines, can be found
at the same place as the cast and crew lists.
Current version of radfind: 1.10.

Right, now that's out of the way, let's put it the way it really is: the
whole idea of these lists is so that you can look them up for
information you want. So long as that's what you do with it, no
problems. Feel free to give the lists to whoever asks for them; there's
no restrictions on distribution, so long as you aren't charging people
for it. The lists are for your reference and enjoyment, so refer and
enjoy!
