A Word Cloud is a visual depiction of a collection of text.
Word Clouds count the number of times words are used in a given group of text, and then display the words sized in proportion to their predominance in the text - the words used most often are larger than the words used less frequently (common words like "is," "and" and such are not typically not counted).
Word Clouds are used in blogs to identify the major topics of the day, the week or other period of time. In other cases, they can highlight the predominant theme or themes of a piece of writing. Some writers check their work with Word Clouds to ensure they are not over-using certain words.
A free opportunity for you to experiment with Word Clouds is online at
Programmer Jonathan Feinberg's 'Wordle' page.
Mr.Feinberg's code allows you to change the orientation, size, color and other elements of your Word Cloud.
