LIFT HIGH THE CROSS!

The cross is perhaps the central symbol of Christian doctrine, symbolizing the Lord Jesus Christ's suffering and death to redeem all of us from our sins.

The A-frame structure of Lutheran Church of the Cross has always included a 24-foot high cut-out of a cross.

In 1991, the congregation sponsored design and construction of a new, brighter stained glass cross. The cross features numerous symbols of Christian faith - including the shell in the center of the cross along with the water motif throughout, symbols of Holy Baptism; wheat, grapes, chalice and wafer symbolizing the Holy Eucharist; and the three intersecting rings in the juncture of the two beams, symbolizing the Holy Trinity.

The design of the cross was executed by Carolyn Carlson. The cross was constructed by Janet and Al Cohan. Construction was funded by the congregation and a grant from Aid Association for Lutherans .

Other stained glass in the building include panels depicting the dove (a symbol of the Holy Spirit), and the seal attributed to Martin Luther. The congregation is in the process of creating a series of stained glass windows for the side walls of the sanctuary. This series will depict the liturgical Church Year from Advent to Christmas , through the Epiphany, Baptism and Transfiguration of our Lord , to Holy Week, Easter, and Pentecost.

We invite you to join us in worship this Sunday morning and be blessed by these talented artists' offerings to the Lord.
