According to the message, the IBSSG has awarded its Bo Peep Award for 2001 to the USGenWeb Project. The Bo Peep award is "a "virtual" award given annually by the Society in recognition of those individuals and Organizations which have contributed significantly to the betterment of the History and Genealogy communities." The IBSSG's webpage is at: http://blacksheep.rootsweb.com/bopeep.htm Shari Handley asks what Esther Frye's qualifications are for the Board Secretary position. === "Courage is not limited to the battlefield or to the Indianapolis 500 or bravely catching a thief in your house. The real tests of courage are ...the inner tests, like remaining faithful when nobody's looking, like enduring pain when the room is empty, like standing alone when you're misunderstood, like fighting for what is right even when you know you are going to lose." ---Charles R. [Yep, Shari's question about Esther Frye's qualifications for the Board Secretary job has gone unanswered. There is no action on the motion to appoint Linda Davenport as temporary chair of the Election Committee. There is also no action on Richard Harrison's pending motion to commend Holly and Betsy for their belated involvement with the GenTech conference. No word on the service mark either. In other words, business as usual.] === News You Can Use Corner: Kathy Welch Heidel has announced the availability of a new page on Kansas Native Americans. The page is part of the KSGenWeb and is located at: http://skyways.lib.ks.us/genweb/nativeam/index.htm Since many of the tribes in Kansas originally came from elsewhere or were moved into other states and territories this page may be of use to anyone researching Native American ancestry. Browsing The Bookshelves Corner: The other day we had some time to kill before seeing a movie [O Brother, Where Art Thou? go see it], and we spent it in the local Borders perusing genealogy books. We were pleased to find that every single book we looked at that covered the topic of "online genealogy" gave favorable mention to USGenWeb. Although we unfortunately lacked a paper and pen to write down names and authors, the books we looked at included those by Rhonda McClure, Elizabeth Crowe [very positive about USGW], the Renick/Wilson book, and several books by Matt and April Helm. Mentions of USGW varied from simple sidebar blurbs to full-blown several page descriptions accompanied by screenshots. Surprisingly [or not] there was no sign of the book our own Esteemed National Coordinator served as a consultant on; an employee told me they've never stocked it but I could probably get it online. === "You don't have to fool all the people all of the time; you just have to fool enough to get elected." ---Gerald Barzan This has been your Daily Board Show. -Teresa Lindquist merope@radix.net ------- Daily Board Show, (c) 2001 by Teresa Lindquist, all rights reserved.
