Message-ID: MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: TEXT/PLAIN; charset=US-ASCII Status: RO X-Status: Hi everyone, OK, this just came over the transom. Its pretty bizarre, but thought you'd like to see it. I have asked all parties for verification of their positions and will present anything they send me here. This is going out now as a "news flash" because the original email went to multiple sources and it will be public knowledge soon enough. Read and judge accordingly; just remember these are in the main unsubstianted allegations. However, I have had two sources confirm the allegation that "sham" coordinators were instituted in the Archives Census Project at Maggie's request in May/June of last year; both sources were personally involved, so it is not 'second-hand'. It is not known at this time if any of these "sham" coordinators voted in last year's election, but there is no evidence that they did. We all remember our National Commander's allegation that "someone" was running for office under an assumed name. As it turns out, the person in question is Geri Newton, who was running for the SE/MA CC representative seat. Geri is apparently the aunt of Kelly Courtney-Blizzard, who once upon a time, by her own admission [see below], used her aunt as a "sham" coordinator in the Archives Census Project, with Maggie Stewart's full knowledge. Geri was not competing with Maggie for a seat, but Kelly was [she has since withdrawn] and according to sources, Maggie notified the EC of her concerns regarding Geri's candidacy and blind copied Tim. This is apparently the basis for Tim's accusation. The EC recently contacted Kelly regarding the allegation and the following was attached to an email sent to Linda Haas Davenport [and several other people, including myself] in response. Kelly denies running under an alias, and it appears that Geri will be withdrawing from the race, for personal reasons. I don't know what will happen with regards to people who cast votes for her. The following has been edited to remove some personal information that is not relevant to USGW. It is posted with Kelly's permission. === ---------- Forwarded message ---------- Date: Sat, 28 Jul 2001 09:25:53 -0700 From: Kelly Courtney-Blizzard Subject: Re: Question From the Election Committee [snip] I was a candidate (actually nominated twice) but chose to drop out because of the RW board mess and I felt it would be a conflict in interest for me. I do not need an alias name, I could have ran on my own, not once but twice. I know exactly where this allegation came from, When I was working with the ACP Maggie was in desperate need of State Census Coordinator's and asked me to help her "create" some coordinator's. Yes I do mean BOGUS Coordinator's. At that time my Aunt was new to USGW and I volunteered her name for a state and had the emails for that state sent to her address (WITH MAGGIE'S KNOWLEDGE AND APPROVAL) [snip] Maggie recently sent me a threatening email about trying to discredit me and I do still have those in my "Maggie collection". [snip] I will be spilling my guts on EVERYTHING I know AND providing PROOF, that I have collected from the ACP, especially the information about the Baltimore Census that YOU STOLE and reformatted, I would be willing to go to court on that transcriber's behalf, not to mention your instructions to me to "collect" private census records posted on personal web pages and send them to you. Creating bogus Coordinator's to fill gapping holes in your project, the Spam file that you sent to me belonging to TIM STOWELL in the last election. I can dig out the emails where you trashed Linda because you claim she locked you out of the ACP files and stabbed you in the back, [deleted] The mysterious AOL Spam account, MEGWIN STARR. The e-mail's claiming Joy Fischer baited you to believe she was on your side of the ACP/Archives split while all along she was supposedly stabbing you in the back too. [deleted] Oh gosh and the e-mail's concerning the USGW Census Project, those are a good read too. Oh yeah and how your "ACP Liaison" is really YOU ! [snip] Teresa, feel free to run this in the DBS. First, I have spoken with Linda Haas-Davenport, Chair of the Election Committee. She wishes to correct some points in the News Flash. According to Linda, "Maggie did not EVER notify the EC of the "assumed name" business." Rather, the EC contacted both Tim Stowell and Maggie and asked about the allegations that Kelly is running under an assumed name. No information about this matter was volunteered to the EC by either the National Coordinator or by Board member Maggie Stewart, both of whom apparently knew about it during the nominations period. An independent person has verified that Geri and Kelly are different people. Also according to Linda, Geri Newton has not yet formally withdrawn from the race, and the EC considers that she is still a candidate. [The original message from Kelly indicated that Geri, due to health reasons, will not serve if elected; we incorrectly assumed that meant she was no longer a candidate.] Second, I am receiving as we speak quite a large amount of information regarding the issue of "sham" ACP file managers and the ACP in general. One of these "sham" managers is still listed as a State Coordinator at http://www.rootsweb.com/~census/coord.htm; the "person" in question is actually not real. The name is that of a relative of Kelly Courtney-Blizzard and the contact address is one that was created using Maggie's AOL account. According to Kelly, "while Maggie was still needing SCC's I was throwing familiar names at her so she could create email addy's for these SCC's with her AOL account...I just checked her page at http://www.rootsweb.com/~census/coord.htm and [name deleted] is still listed, I guess I should tell you that [name deleted] is my [relationship deleted]'s name. Maggie did remove a number of other bogus SCC's after I left but must have forgotten about [deleted]" [A big question here, of course, is did [name deleted] vote last year? Or this year, for that matter?] Also, apparently Maggie was also involved in the Census Project spam of last year shortly after the Census Project was delinked and severed. You may recall that several emails went out under bogus names to CP transcribers describing the recent problems and inviting them over to the ACP. Allegedly, Maggie used one of the oh-so-useful AOL accounts to facilitate this process as well, with Kelly's help. According to Kelly, "Megwin Starr was Maggie's plan to repay you for the DBS. She wanted to set up a web page about all of her enemies on AOL since she knew they would not release account information to the public. Do remember the census spam wars? Well I hate to admit it but I helped Maggie to word those letters and she used the Megwin Starr account to create new screen names and sent the spam from AOL." [hmmm...remember the "Starz of the DBS" page from awhile back? Wonder if that was Maggie's idea of revenge?] Among the more interesting items are some that indicate that the recent departure of the ACP from the Archives was not entirely amicable. We are trying to delve more into that, but in one of Maggie's messages to Kelly, she notes "I see you have a link to Linda and to Ron's project so I'm assuming that means you are now aligned with them and no longer interested in a link from our project. You should know that Linda hasn't changed a bit and Ron never will, your playing with fire aligning yourself with those two." Finally, "On the advice of legal counsel", Maggie will not be responding to the allegations. Out of the Frying Pan Corner: Since its early in the morning here, and even sources need to sleep, we have little new to report on the recently revealed "anomalies" in management over at the former ACP. We have received more on Kelly Courtney-Blizzard's role at the former ACP when she worked there and it was extensive. According to Kelly, "I ran over 20+ states, coordinated the records to manage the SCC's, kept Maggie's records for managing the SCC'S and ALL of the master files for the transcribers and assignments in the project, I was among three or four who did the formatting for the completed transcriptions." Even Maggie's right hand man, Kevin Fraley, did not know of the extent of Kelly's behind-the-scenes duties. The DBS has received a "duty roster" for the ACP, created July 15, 2000 by Maggie Stewart, and it contains full list of state assignments. Fully ten states were being covered by fictitious coordinators and they are specifically marked as "fictitious" in this document. Kelly was covering an additional 11 states. Several states had non-fictitious coordinators assigned but are listed as having others actually doing the work. At least one of the people marked as "fictitious" appears on the posted list the EC used to compile its voter list for the former ACP. We have learned privately that the former ACP is one of the projects that did not comply with EC requests to provide voter lists, so it is entirely possible that this fictitious person received a ballot and voted. Their email account is valid and allegedly belongs to none other than Maggie Stewart. Should it become necessary to hold a run-off election for any seat the following will be the procedures...Run-off Election will begin Fri. Aug 3 at 12 noon CDT (10 am PDT)...Run-off Election will end Mon. Aug 13 at 2 am CDT (12 am PDT)...The same password used in the regular election will be used in the Runoff Election. The same voting booth will be used. Voting procedures will be the same as they were in the regular election. Eligibility to vote in the run-off election will be the same as for the regular election. The results of the run-off will handled in the same manner as the regular election" Questions may be directed to the EC at: http://www.rootsweb.com/~usgwelections/ Also, for those of you curious about how votes for candidates who resigned will be handled, an answer has been posted at: http://www.rootsweb.com/~usgwelections/FAQ.html. Basically, you are out of luck as far as getting to recast your vote. However, the EC will be considering the problem for future elections. It Just Keeps Getting Better Corner: We have been informed that another person appearing on the current list of coordinators at: http://www.rootsweb.com/~census/coord.htm is fake. It appears that between them the two "sham" coordinators are handling 10 states for the former ACP. Reminder Corner: Tomorrow's DBS, if there is one, will be the last on Listbot. On Wednesday August 1 the DBS will be moving to Yahoo Groups. The new address will be dailyboardshow@yahoogroups.com. As on Listbot, it will remain an announcement style newsletter [I will be the only one who can post to it], it will still come to your mailbox, and the archives will be publicly available. I will be moving all email addresses today and tomorrow and will send a test post once they are all moved. I don't know if you will need to then go and open a yahoo account or not. The test post will include subscribe and unsubscribe information. If anyone does not wish to be transferred, please let me know ASAP. Although the Listbot archives will be lost entirely on August 20, they will remain available at http://www.raidx.net/~merope/dbs.htm === Today's quote was contributed by a reader: "Sooner or later everyone sits down to a banquet of consequences." ---Robert Louis Stevenson This has been your Daily Board Show. -Teresa Lindquist merope@radix.net ------- Daily Board Show, (c) 2001 by Teresa Lindquist, all rights reserved. Tuesday 31 July 2001; Wednesday 1 Aug 2001: No Board activity yesterday or today, thus far. === Election Corner: The 2001 USGenWeb election concluded last night at midnight PDT. Results will be announced sometime today. The DBS would like to take this opportunity to give a hearty thanks to the Election Committee for its efforts on behalf of the project in this year's election. We know it is not an easy task; this year's election seemed to run smoother than any we've had before. According to EC member Keith Giddeon, 616 people had cast votes by early yesterday morning. Although this is a small sliver of the project membership, it compares favorably with previous years: 2000: 689 [NC] 1999 (Regular Election/Jul 31): 515 [NC}; 458 [RAL] 1999 (Special Election/Jan 31): 468 [NC] 1998: 790 [NC] [figures also provided by Keith Giddeon] Given that many people wait until the last minute to vote, we are hopeful that the turnout will be a bit larger this year. On the recent scandal front, the Election Committee has reported that the "fake" state census coordinators recently discovered on the SC list of the former ACP did not cast votes. That at least is good news. Coming Back to Bite You Corner: Back in the day, when Kelly Courtney Blizzard worked with Maggie Stewart on the Archives Census Project, Kelly suggested to Maggie that she might want to assign someone to act as a liaison between management and transcribers. Maggie replied "Janyce King is our project liaison already, too bad she's just a figment of my imagination. ROTF." We wonder if Maggie is laughing now. === "We are trampled most often by forces we ourselves created" ---William Shakespeare This has been your Daily Board Show. -Teresa Lindquist merope@radix.net ------- Daily Board Show, (c) 2001 by Teresa Lindquist, all rights reserved
