Read at your own risk! Thursday 8 March 2001-Friday 9 March 2001: Other than Tim Stowell's daily reports, there has been no activity on Board-L. There are no open motions. === Timeliness Corner: According to motion 01-04, nominations for the five Board mediators were supposed to commence one week after passage of the motion. That deadline passed yesterday. IIRC, the proposal itself mandated that nominations would occur on Board-L, so its probably safe to assume they haven't gotten around to it yet. Victim of Circumstances Corner: Many readers have asked about the sudden disappearance of the USGenExchange, which went offline Tuesday evening, March 6. Between Tuesday and Thursday, visitors to the site were met with a blank screen and the message "Services terminated." Today the message has changed to read "The GenExchange is temporarily down. We will return! Thank you for your patience." According to GenExchange founder Anthony Abby, they have been forced to enter a lawsuit against their developer for various breaches of contract and in apparent response to this, the developer took the entire site offline. They are now working on getting the GenExchange back online as soon as possible. Too Little Too Late Corner: Root$web has posted the following announcement regarding the lost February GenConnect posts: "Please note that recent GenConnect postings for portions of February 2001 are NOT currently archived on select boards. Recent maintenance has uncovered a drive failure resulting in select messages from February 2001 being excluded from the current archive. This advisory pertains to select postings for the month of February 2001 ONLY. Recovery efforts are currently underway to restore these February postings as thoroughly and quickly as possible. During this time, GenConnect is fully functional and new posts can be submitted as usual." [My first response to this is, all well and good, but why is there no back-up? Second question would be can this happen to our Archives, websites, etc?] === "Censorship reflects a society's lack of confidence in itself." ---Potter Stewart This has been your Daily Board Show. -Teresa Lindquist merope@radix.net ------- Daily Board Show, (c) 2001 by Teresa Lindquist, all rights reserved.
