Read at your own risk! Saturday 17 March 2001: Tim Stowell reports that there are no motions open on the floor for March 14-March 17. [There's been nothing since either. Still no Board Mediator nominations.] === To Good To Be True Corner: We've heard through the grapevine that there's been a handful of additional layoffs over at the MyFamily.com offices. According to the rumor mill Charles Merrin, head of Root$web, was among those who were handed pink slips. If this proves to be true, this is the first layoff over there known to directly affect RW personnel. We wonder if this a harbinger of worse things to come. Too Much Time On Their Hands Corner: The Bureau of Land Management website [http://www.glorecords.blm.gov] was hacked over the weekend and the site displayed an "owned by PoizonBox" graphic for most of Saturday and Sunday. It was still up this am when I checked, so the feds apparently weren't too concerned about it. Its been fixed and the site appears to be functioning OK as of this afternoon. === "Every man should periodically be compelled to listen to opinions which are infuriating to him. Monday 19 March 2001: Something has prodded the board into action after a week of torpor, and the nominations for Board mediators are rolling in: Ellen Pack nominates Holly Timm, Joe Zsedeny, Tina Vickery, Joy Fisher, Shari Handley Shari nominates Holly, Tina, Teri Pettin, Joe, Joy Richard Howland nominates Holly, Joe, Ellen Pack, Ginger Hayes, Joy Holly nominates Joe, Joy, Richard Harrison, Tina, Teri Rich Howland replaces Holly with Shari in his nominations Teri Pettit nominates Joe, Shari, Pam Reid, Richard Harrison, Ellen Tina nominates Betsy Mills, Ellen, Joy, Richard Harrison, Teri Shari replaces Holly with Richard Harrison in her nominations Joy nominates Pam, Joe, Shari, Betsy and Ken Short Tim asks the other Board members to place their nominations on Board-L. [Hmmm...you don't suppose they were posting elsewhere, do you?] Citing personal health issues, Holly Timm declines to serve as a mediator. Joy moves that "the Mediation Process Procedure Page currently housed at http://www.rootsweb.com/~ilgenweb/abm.htm be moved to the USGenWeb site: www.usgenweb.org and that the web page: http://www.usgenweb.org/official/boardvotes-01-1.html#01-04 be amended with the new URL for this procedure page." Tuesday 20 March 2001: Maggie nominates Tina, Joy, Ellen, Richard Harrison, Teri Betsy nominates Joe, Shari, Richard, Tina, Teri Joe nominates Joy, Shari, Richard Harrison, Pam, and Ken Maggie seconds Joy's motion. Betsy also declines to serve as a Board mediator. === Popularity Contest Corner: With 10 Board members having submitted, nominations currently stand at the following counts: Holly: 1 Joe: 7 Tina: 5 Joy: 7 Shari: 6 Teri: 5 Ellen: 4 Ginger: 1 Richard Harrison: 7 Pam: 3 Betsy: 2 Ken: 2 Interestingly enough the co-author of the mediation proposal, Richard Howland, has received not a single nomination. === "A government can be no better than the public opinion that sustains it. ---Franklin Delano Roosevelt This has been your Daily Board Show. -Teresa Lindquist merope@radix.net ------- Daily Board Show, (c) 2001 by Teresa Lindquist, all rights reserved. Read at your own risk! Tuesday 20 March 2001: Ginger Hayes nominates Richard Howland [why, what a coincidence!], Ellen Pack, Joy Fisher, Joe Zsedeny, and Pam Reid as Board mediators. Wednesday 21 March 2001: Tim Stowell "recognizes" Joy's motion to move the Mediation Proposal to the national webpages and opens the floor for discussion. [In a break with traditional procedure, he doesn't give the motion a number.] Tim's daily report notes that motion regarding placement of the mediation proposal [still unnumbered] is current under discussion and the nominations for Board mediators proceeds, with 10 Board members submitting nominations thus far. [Yeah, I counted 11 too at this point.] Ken Short nominates Joy, Shari Handley, Pam, and the Richards Ellen withdraws her nomination of Holly and inexplicably replaces it with Betsy Mills [who has also declined to serve]. Pam Reid nominates Joe, Joy, Richard Howland, Ellen, and Teri Pettit === Friends in High Places Corner: Nominations for Board mediators are as follows: Holly Timm: 0 Joe Zsedeny: 9 Tina Vickery: 5 Joy Fisher: 10 Shari Handley: 7 Teri Pettit: 6 Ellen Pack: 6 Ginger Hayes: 1 Richard Harrison: 8 Pam Reid: 4 Betsy Mills: 3 Ken Short: 2 Richard Howland: 3 Joy Fisher appears to be the favorite, with Joe Zsedeny a close second. Richard Harrison looks likely to make the cut too, although proposal co-author Richard Howland will most likely be left out [the handful of "pity votes" he got after yesterday's DBS notwithstanding]. There are still two Board members to hear from though, so its still too close to call for most of the slots. Update On The News Corner: GenExchange founders Anthony and Joanne Abby expect to be in court March 28 and to have their servers back online on the 29th. They filed in Jacksonville, FL on Monday, alleging breach of contract and requesting the return of their servers, damages, and legal costs. They are seeking an injuction for the immediate return of their servers, and it is expected that it will be granted. === "The truly skillful politician is one who, when he comes to a fork in the road, goes both ways." ---Marco A. Wednesday 21 March 2001: Barbara Dore nominates Richard Howland, Shari Handley, Richard Harrison, Joy Fisher, Joe Zsedeny Richard Harrison nominates Joy, Richard Howland, Ellen Pack, Pam Reid, Joe Thursday 22 March 2001: Tim Stowell announces the final vote count, and the slate of new Board mediators. The new mediators are Joy (12 votes), Joe (11), Richard Harrison (9), Shari (8), and Ellen (7). In his daily report, Tim notes that discussion continues on the motion to move the Mediation Proposal to the USGW home page and that nominations for the Board mediators were concluded. === Led Around By the Nose Corner: We find it most amusing that every Board member who submitted nominations after the March 20 DBS was published [wherein we noted that Richard Howland had received no votes] submitted a vote for, you guessed it, Richard Howland. To no avail, however. It was too little too late. Ellen Pack, who won't use the mediation process herself, was selected for the panel, as was Shari Handley, a Board member who has not hesitated in the past to abuse members who file grievances. === "The only valid censorship of ideas is the right of people not to listen." ---Tommy Smothers This has been your Daily Board Show. -Teresa Lindquist merope@radix.net ------ Daily Board Show, (c) 2001 by Teresa Lindquist, all rights reserved. Friday 23 March 2001: Teri asks what there is to discuss regarding motion 07-01, pointing out that "It seems in line with the kind of web site maintenance that Pam does all the time, without needing motions." She asks that the group vote yes on the motion immediately. Richard Harrison calls the question. Saturday 24 March 2001: In his daily report, Tim Stowell notes that discussion is ongoing on Motion 01-07. He also changes his explanation as to why he failed to number the motion for so long from "misplacing" his list of motions to being "away from" his list of motion numbers and launches into a long explanation involving laptops, changing hard drive changes, and unavailable computers. Tim calls for a vote on motion 01-07. Thus far 12 board members have voted yes. Tim declares Motion 01-07 passed as soon as 10 members vote yes on it, but notes that any Board members who still wish to vote may do so and be included in the final vote count. Tim writes another daily report for today, noting that Motion 01-07 has passed and no other motions are open on the floor. Richard Howland posts the following "I as of this date and time do here by resign as Northeast/North Central Region County Coordinator Representativ." === Changing of the Guard Corner: Doug Neibauer is the new SC and Rhonda Smith is the new ASC of the IDGenWeb. Congrats to both! Class Action Corner: The votes are in for the NCGenWeb vote on whether or not to register "NCGenWeb" with North Carolina's trademark office. 25 members voted to register and 5 voted not to register. We are told that there are some 75 or so members eligible to vote in NCGW, so this represents the opinion of less than half its members.
